Taxes, aka “income redistribution” April 16, 2010

Posted by ev0rev in Politics.

As a proponent of a flat tax system, I view our current tax laws as grossly inept/inefficient and in some cases legally questionable.  I’ve heard it time and again, the poor in this country are taken advantage of by the rich.  There is such a disparity between the rich and the poor in this nation.  The poor honest workers in this country slave away to earn for the corporate elite.  Yet one glance at our existing tax structure and a realistic view of exactly who pays what provides some interesting information.

These figures seem to run contrary to popular perception.  Far from being overburdened, the poor in this nation bear very little of the tax brunt.  While that may sound fair, the wealthy have the funds to pay the taxes after all, it isn’t at all how our tax structure was intended.  A lot of attention has been focused by members of this administration on tax cuts for the wealthy.  They conveniently forget to mention the expansion of tax cuts for low and middle income families that took place at the same time.

Maybe it’s time to try something new.  We know what isn’t working, I submit it’s time to try something that just might.
