American Shame May 13, 2010

Ever think wearing an American flag t shirt would be frowned upon in this country?  Well, it’s happened. As hard as it is for me to believe, here is another example where a minority group is allowed to dictate policy even in the face of logic.

Let me get this straight, the  Assistant Principal felt it was somehow insulting to wear an American flag shirt… in America… because it happened to also be a Mexican holiday?!?  And now the Hispanic community is upset over this?!  They feel “disrespected”?!   Look…noone is saying they can’t celebrate Cinco De Mayo…   there is NO disrespect.   Shame on the Hispanic students, shame on the faculty and shame on our nation for allowing things to get to this point.  What a complete disgrace.

Has this country lost each and every ounce of pride/dignity/respect it ever had?!   Tell each and every one of those Hispanic protesters that we have something called the 1st Amendment here in the U.S. (or we did at one time) and that wearing an American flag on American soil should NEVER be treated as an abomination!

My support for the Hispanic community suffers considerably each and every time I read a story like this.  When previous generations immigrated to this nation they continued to celebrate their cultural holidays with one important difference… they celebrated the melding of two cultures.  They were more than happy to embrace their new American heritage along with their traditional culture.  Today our American heritage is being shoved aside as an offense, as an obstacle, as a sign of disrespect.

Hi would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using? I’m going to start my own blog soon but I’m having a difficult time deciding between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique.
P.S My apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!

No worries at all Julianne. I use WordPress myself. It seems to provide a lot of functionality that I was looking for. And no need to ever apologize…any/all comments/questions welcome!
